UPDATE ON COVID-19 FOR THE TOURISM AND HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY
Australian Government update on coronavirus measures
Yesterday, the National Cabinet agreed to a forward planning framework to guide the next steps in responding to the coronavirus and agreed to seven precedent conditions to any further relaxations, as advised by Australian Health Protection Principal Committee. The Australian Health Protection Principal Committee has commenced the next phase of modelling called ‘nowcasting’ to better understand the present state of the coronavirus epidemic. It is expected that the rate of epidemic growth in Australia will change over time as public health measures are tightened or reduced. The nowcasting model will be important in informing the effectiveness of interventions and will be integral in shaping Australia’s response strategies as the pandemic evolves. The Australian Government has announced that it will provide an investment of $165 million to support Qantas and Virgin Australia Groups to operate a minimum domestic network service. The arrangements will last for an initial eight weeks with a review mechanism in place to continue monitoring the market to determine if further action is required.
Tasmania will be serviced by a daily Qantas Hobart – Melbourne return service and a twice weekly Qantas Launceston – Melbourne return service. Read the media statement here.
A Regional Airlines Network Support package from the Australian government will support REX to fly between Burnie and Melbourne twice weekly, with final frequency to be confirmed.INDUSTRY NEWS AND OPPORTUNITIES

Businesses can access a free two-hour coaching session with an expert digital coach delivered remotely via Zoom or phone. Topics include websites, e-commerce, booking systems, social media, SEO, content, advertising, online tools, Google My business and more.

The Australian Tourism Export Council has developed a 36-week Road to Recovery webinar program for the tourism industry. The 45-minute tutorials are free of charge, open to everyone and will be hosted every Thursday at 2:00 pm.

Tasmanian wineries like Taltarni and Clover Hill have launched virtual cellar door experiences to allow their customers to remain engaged with their products through entertainment and wine education. The online classes are held via Facebook Live each Friday evening, taking viewers through the winemaking process and a tasting class. Find out more here.
