    Position Vacant: Team Leader Tourism and Major Events

    Salary: $88,410.410 per annum

    Closing: Friday 18 September 2020

    Full Time – Temporary (30 June 2021)

    The Economic Development Department is seeking a highly motivated, organised and passionate person to take on the role of Team Leader Tourism and Major Events until 30 June 2021. The successful applicant will oversee a dynamic tourism and events team including four direct reports, which include the Tourism Projects Officer, Tourism Coordinator, Events Facilities Coordinator and Events Coordinator.

    The visitor economy program in Greater Shepparton is growing rapidly with some game changing projects and initiatives underway helping shape the region as a major visitor destination guided by the Economic Development, Tourism and Major Events strategy. The region is now servicing in excess of 1 million visitors a year, this is growing rapidly and this position plays a key role in helping facilitate and develop the regions destination brand, marketing activities and product development. The role also oversees a significant major events calendar of regional, state, national and international events. The events portfolio includes sporting, business, arts, cultural, multicultural, equestrian, music, food, lifestyle, civic and community events.

    This position will also oversee effective operation of Council facilities including the Greater Shepparton Visitor Centre and key major event venues the Shepparton Showgrounds and Tatura Park Equestrian and Events Complex.

    During this temporary role period, some of the exciting special projects and initiatives this role will get to work on include:

    * Implementing a number of visitor economy support initiatives outlined in the tourism research project and action plan that was recently developed in partnership with the local tourism industry

    * Working with the Greater Shepparton Visitor Centre to transition to the new Shepparton Art Museum and being part of the internal working group on developing the opening suite of external celebrations subject to COVID-19 restrictions

    * Development and implementation of Covid-19 economic response visitor economy initiatives to support business and industry during recovery and activation including appropriate return to events plan.
