    About the business

    The Rottnest Channel Swim Association (RCSA) conducts the annual Rottnest Channel Swim from Cottesloe to Rottnest Island in February each year. It is highly regarded world-wide and is one of Western Australia’s most iconic events. More than 10,000 people are involved on event day including 2,500 swimmers and up to 8,000 skippers, paddlers, boat crews, volunteers and spectators.

    The RCSA is made up of a full time Executive Officer and full time Event Officer, as well as a volunteer committee of eight which includes a President, Vice President, Financial Controller and general committee members. Meeting once a month, the committee assist in making high level decisions, strategic planning, assisting at events, and supporting RCSA staff.

    About the role

    Reporting to the Executive Officer of the Association, the Event Officer supports the work of the RCSA, assists with the marketing and coordination of the annual event and volunteer management.

    The main activities in this role are:

    • Liaising with external providers, sponsors and members;
    • Liaising with and managing all correspondence with participants;
    • Managing and coordinating volunteers;
    • Managing the online registration system;
    • Assisting with multiple event co-ordination activities in the lead up to the event;
    • Taking phone/email enquiries;
    • Undertaking all office administrative activities;
    • Undertaking additional activities, as requested by the Executive Officer.

    What we’re looking for (selection criteria)

    The successful candidate for the Event Officer position should possess:

    • Minimum two years demonstrated experience in an events or marketing role
    • Excellent organisational skills with proven experience of managing varied stakeholder groups
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively to set and achieve objectives within agreed timelines
    • Demonstrated experience in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
