    About Us

    Kangaroo Island remains an Australian tourism mecca, globally recognised for its clean, green primary produce and iconic landscapes.     It’s an exciting time for the Kangaroo Island Council post the devastating bushfires, embarking on rebuilding the Island and a council redesign with a view to delivering exemplary community services.

    About the Role
    Reporting to the Director of Community Development, the Manager Community Engagement and Grants is responsible for the delivery of planned economic development activities, securing funding for future economic initiatives and assisting the Council to meet its strategic objectives as outlined in the 2020 – 2024 Strategic Plan.
    The Manager Community Engagement and Grants will play a key role in driving community engagement and consultation with Kangaroo Island residents and community organisations and forging effective working relationships with other government departments and agencies.
    Key responsibilities include:

    • Manage key economic development priorities including business and industry development, tourism, agriculture growth, events, township development, grants attraction and management, regional advocacy and population growth.
    • Assist with the implementation of Council’s Strategic, Business and Marketing/Communications Plans.
    • Manage the Council’s grant programs and register, including Community Partnership Grants, Community Capital Infrastructure Grants and Youth Grants.
    • Oversee data collection, analysis and report writing on the economic and social aspects of the community.
    • Coordinate all marketing and communications activities to assist with the promotion of the Kangaroo Island Council.
    • Promote and develop strong links with community organisations, local, state and commonwealth government departments, non-government agencies, the private sector and individuals.
    • Contribute to effective public participation and consultation to ensure community groups are informed of relevant issues, events and activities and general information about Council.
    • Research and secure supplementary funding sources and partnerships to assist with planning and implementing projects aligned to the strategic objectives of the Council.

    About You

    • A tertiary qualification in Communications, Public Relations, Social Science, Marketing or other relevant field
    • Experience in developing strategic communication plans and delivering community engagement activities
    • Strong knowledge of current economic trends, research policy shifts, and emerging issues related to economic development
    • Proven stakeholder management experience, including consultation, analysis, and reporting
    • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a team environment
    • Self-motivated, excellent time management skills and strong attention to detail
    • Ability to build positive, collaborative, and service-oriented relationships
    • Knowledge of local government functions (desirable)
