    Communications and Engagement Manager (Tourism)

    – Salary $124,033 – $165,983 plus Superannuation

    – Fixed Term, 2 years

    – Full-time (Until June 2023)

    – Usual work location: 121 Exhibition Street, Melbourne (flexibility may be available)

    This newly created role of Communications and Engagement Manager (Tourism) will support the delivery of the Government’s Visitor Economy Reform and Recovery Package.

    Reporting to the Director Communications and Media and working closely with Tourism, Events and Visitor Economy colleagues and stakeholders, the Communications and Engagement Manager will lead the development and delivery of a stakeholder engagement and communications plan to support delivery of the reform agenda. The role will produce and coordinate a program of regular communication and engagement products to provide updates to industry stakeholders on progress and achievements and to support change processes.

    The Tourism, Events and Visitor Economy team:

    – Provides Research and policy development across the Victorian Visitor Economy;

    – Develops key strategies and policies and thereby establishes charters and business directions of the key Visitor economy entitles such as Visit Victoria, Australian Grand Prix Corporation, and Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre; and

    – Negotiates and liaises with the Commonwealth Government on key policy issues which affect the tourism industry (eg aviation policy, visa, skilled migration policies and programs; airline access, etc and supports the Victorian Minister in relation to the Commonwealth-State Tourism Ministers Meeting.

    The successful applicant will demonstrate:

    – Experience and ability to strategically plan and deliver high quality and timely strategic communications and engagement activities – delivering on competing demands and expectations (on time and within budget) with a high-level of attention to detail and ensuring compliance with relevant department and government communications guidelines.

    – Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal) and experience leading and implementing stakeholder engagement and change strategies in complex environments with multiple government and industry stakeholders.

    – Demonstrated ability to comfortably deal with communications, change and stakeholder engagement concepts and high-level complexity, and use analytical and conceptual skills to effectively manage reputational risks and issues, solve problems and implement innovative solutions, supported by relevant tertiary qualifications in communications, public relations or marketing (or similar).

    – A strong track record of establishing and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels. This includes a demonstrated ability to provide expert, strategic advice and support to these stakeholders while maintaining composure and focus under pressure and comfortably adapting to change.

    – Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team, collaborating and coordinating with subject matter experts and communications colleagues while assuming primary accountability for developing and delivering the communications and engagement strategy for a significant program of work.
