Purpose of this role:
Mackay Tourism Ltd. (MTL) is the peak tourism organisation for the Mackay – Isaac region. As a not-for-profit, membership-based, marketing and destination development organisation, we promote the region for both leisure and business.
The role of Marketing Officer is integral to Mackay Tourism. The role is responsible for the delivery of consumer marketing for the region through all marketing channels. You will be required to actively participate in the development of a marketing strategy and will then take carriage of the delivery of this strategy.
A key element of delivery is working with the Mackay tourism industry; Tourism and Events Queensland, Mackay and Isaac Regional Councils and Government to secure buy in both financially and to the broader marketing direction of Mackay Tourism.
This hands on role offers a high level of variety, autonomy and ability to use your creativity to deliver outcomes.

Functions of the position:
- Continue with the implementation of the Mackay Region brand
- Actively participate in and develop strategy and marketing plans for the Mackay region that deliver on the brand
- Coordinate cooperative marketing partnerships with industry and stakeholders
- Develop & implement digital marketing strategies incorporating owned, earned, and bought digital assets
- Coordinate and deliver marketing collateral including the Visitor Guide, advertising material, display material and the like.
- Develop and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with Tourism and Events Queensland, Mackay Tourism Industry and regional stakeholders
- Work with various government agencies to deliver benefits for the Mackay Region
- Track and report on Marketing activities both internally and externally
- Use market research as the base from which to guide all strategies
- Actively participate in delivery of cross organisational activities and priorities
- Represent Mackay Tourism at functions, meetings, events, and trade and consumer shows
- Undertake presentations to industry and partners on marketing activities and other relevant topics
- Maintain Mackay Tourism presence at trade and consumer shows where required
- Ensure marketing activity deliver on the Mackay Region brand promise and destination experience
- Coordinate and deliver integrated marketing campaigns to identified target markets, including campaign planning and media scheduling, write marketing proposals to secure support for campaigns and manage all associated activities
- Ensure financial budget for allocated projects is managed and leveraged within organisation guidelines
- Other duties and tasks as directed by the CEO

Selection Criteria
- A degree in Marketing preferably within the Tourism Industry, or equivalent practical experience.
- Demonstrated success in marketing campaigns
- A sound understanding and interest in digital marketing and current communication trends, including social media
- Ability to communicate with and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to perform well under pressure and prioritise workloads to meet tight deadlines
- Proven ability to manage budgets effectively
Technical Skills & Other
- Knowledge of and experience with a range of software programs including the Microsoft suite and basic website coding, including the ability to learn new programs as required.
- Current Drivers Licence
