    ABCRA & GREAT AUSTRALIAN ROUNDUP

The Australian Bushmen’s Campdraft and Rodeo Association (ABCRA) is a non-profit campdraft and rodeo organisation that was formed in 1946 for the purpose of co-ordinating and assisting affiliated committees to conduct their events.

The ABCRA have been part of the Australian rodeo and campdraft industry and the rural community for seven decades, in many cases paving the way to the continuing growth of these sports. ABCRA has a rich history with its heritage strongly built by the ‘man on the land’ and it has grown to be uniquely Australia’s only and largest organisation administering the sports of campdrafting and rodeo under one entity.

ABCRA boasts a growing annual membership currently with over 4,300 full members and over 3,000 day members. 185 affiliated clubs and associations conduct more than 290 events annually across Australia; events which attract hundreds of thousands of competitors and fans alike each year. Top competitors travel year round to accumulate points and prize money to qualify for the season finale, the ABCRA National Finals.

It is proposed that the Great Australian Roundup is a multi-day festival that celebrates Australian rural lifestyles built around the Campdraft and Rodeo National Finals, held on the October Long Weekend at the Australian Equine and Livestock Events Centre (AELEC), Tamworth. Three competition rounds will be included for rodeo, campdraft and ranch sorting, and the festival will celebrate the heritage of the sports showcasing elements of Australian cultural heritage, Man from Snowy River, bushrangers and Indigenous heritage.

The Roundup will offer a festival experience built from non-stop elements occurring all day and evening such as sheep shearing, a truck show, dog trials, a trade expo, sports competitions, a stockman’s challenge, a carnival, live music, behind the scenes elements, education clinics, and heritage talks. The Australian championships campdraft will be held early in the week, and the rodeo National Finals as the finale.

    SCOPE OF THIS POSITION:

The Event Manager role is to drive the overall Great Australian Roundup event strategy and ensure a successful and sustainable event now, and into the future.

Reporting to the CEO, and working with the Event Officer and Steering Committee, the Event Manager is responsible for the over-arching development, marketing, management and successful conduct of the event.
