About the Position
A rare opportunity exists for an experienced and high achieving event coordinator to join the Major Sporting Venues team within the City of Gold Coast. With Major Sporting Venues marked as one of the 2032 Olympics venues this is a great time to join our team and a venue that attracts national and international events.
You will be responsible for leading our events team, overseeing the departmental services and initiatives, working with our other operational teams, and growing event revenue.
Key Deliverables of the position
Major Sports Venues is looking for a professional leader to this new position that will bring current experience and skills to make it unique and their own. The successful applicant will be key to the activation of the city’s fastest growing entertainment precincts and indoor venue network via the successful and safe delivery of over 150 events. You will be responsible for managing activities but not limited to:
Leadership
• Act as the strategic leader for event management to create and delivery a vision for events that supports the business objectives.
• Driving success by supporting a high-performance team environment.
• Demonstrating and fostering a result driven and solution focused attitude.
• Develop resourcing strategy to predict future staffing and training needs.
• Drive event content towards business financial goals of profitability and local economic benefit.
• Manage and report against business budgets.
Safety
• Risk management and legal champion. Ensure all our events have been risk assessed during conception, development, and implementation phases.
• Ensuring risk analysis is upheld during event planning process to ensure public safety / security and maintain public image.
• Work with corporate workplace health and safety and WHS consultants to delivery safety program to ensure the safe and compliant delivery of events.
Stakeholder Management
• Key stakeholder engagement officer, liaising with internal and external stakeholders to ensure positive relationships are developed and maintained.
• Developing and maintaining a wide range of professional networks with a range of event professionals, suppliers, community groups, agencies and consultants relevant to City’s event functions.
About You
To be considered for this opportunity you must meet the following criteria:
• Tertiary qualifications in Event Management or equivalent, demonstrable, experience
• Strong leadership skills with demonstrated business acumen
• Demonstrated success and experience in a similar event management role
• Confident business development and networking capabilities.
• Strong communication skills with an ability to liaise with a diverse range of people
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with particular emphasis in the areas of consultation, negotiation, influencing, conflict resolution and assertiveness to resolve organisational issues and meet changing organisational needs
• Applicants must also have the ability to complete a police check and have a current driver’s licence.
As part of our selection process, you will be required to undertake police checks, employment history checks, qualification checks and drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Australian Standards and Council’s procedures.
