About Outdoors WA
Outdoors WA is the Peak Body for the outdoors industry, advocating for groups in outdoor education, adventure tourism, and outdoor recreation. The industry is estimated to generate more than $1.1billion in Gross Value Add to the WA economy every year.
As the leading voice for the outdoor industry in Western Australia, Outdoors WA is seeking a passionate individual with skills and experience in the tourism industry to join our current Board of Directors.
Since our inception in 2000, Outdoors WA has been at the forefront of advocacy, leadership, and support for the outdoor sector. With the backing of our member base and the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, we have successfully represented the sector on both state and national platforms. Our efforts extend to providing invaluable representation and advocacy to associated industries, state and federal governments, and inter-agency forums.
Our diverse membership includes outdoor education teachers, recreation leaders, adventure tourism operators, clubs, event organizers, retailers, and professional associations. By bringing together stakeholders from various backgrounds, we strive to create a unified voice that champions outdoor activity and its benefits.
About the Role
Our Board of Directors plays a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of Outdoors WA. We are currently looking to appoint an individual who is committed to our mission and specifically brings a perspective, skills, and experience from the Tourism Sector.
The tourism industry is forecasting adventure tourism to be one of the next big global megatrends with a 47% annualized growth rate over the next 5 years. This represents a significant opportunity for WA and Outdoors WA is looking to ensure the industry capitalises on this market.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic direction and governance oversight to Outdoors WA.
- Contribute expertise and insights from the Tourism Sector to support the organization’s goals and initiatives.
- Act as ambassadors for Outdoors WA within the community and with stakeholders.
- Attend bi-monthly Tuesday afternoon board meetings and actively participate in discussions and decision-making processes.
