Northern Tasmania set to be agriCULTURED
Media Release – June 3 – Peter Gutwein Premiere of Tasmania
Today I was delighted to launch the inaugural agriCULTURED event which will be held in August this year in venues across northern Tasmania. The Tasmanian Government has provided $400,000 to support the event in 2021 and 2022 through the Major Events Partnership Program, designed to support events that return substantial economic outcomes for the State and encourage visitors to travel regionally during winter.
Tasmania has what many visitors want, and agri-tourism represents the best of what we have to offer, providing increased opportunities for Tasmanian operators and new experiences for visitors and locals.
We know that events like agriCULTURED will play a key role in driving our economic recovery from COVID, supporting jobs growth in our tourism and hospitality sectors and strengthening our Tasmanian brand.
That’s why we’ve committed $1.5 million to establish a Regional Event Recovery grant fund, $21.5 million to secure multi-year agreements with some of Tasmania’s iconic major events and we will provide $8 million for a new Events Support and Attraction Fund, starting in the new financial year.
As we reactivate Tasmania’s events sector through the Safe Events and Activities framework, it is pleasing to see industry confidence return and I congratulate the organisers of agriCULTURED on the launch of the event.
As part of the agriCULTURED program, local and interstate farmers, agritourism operators, producers and makers will come together to discuss important sector related issues, while the public will be able to participate in experiences which provide insights into farming lives, food provenance and food security.
agriCULTURED is an excellent example of how the Tasmanian Government’s T21 Visitor Economy Action Plan 2020-22 is working, highlighting the strategic role of agri-tourism in growing our tourism and events industries.
agriCULTURED has been developed by Visit Northern Tasmania in partnership with Fermen Tasmania and the City of Launceston and will be held 5 – 8 August 2021.
