This is an entry level position designed to develop, support and mentor the successful applicant in all facets of the role.
This exciting role is part of Council’s Education to Employment (E2E) program that offers apprentices, trainees and cadets the opportunity to learn, work and grow in a supportive environment while actively contributing to our Community. Lake Macquarie City Council (LMCC) invites applications from creative and enthusiastic people interested in undertaking a traineeship with LMCC’s Arts, Culture and Tourism team. The Trainee Arts, Culture and Tourism Officer will be involved in a range of activities to support operations of public gallery, libraries, heritage and museum sectors (GLAM), cultural initiatives, events and arts marketing. The Arts, Culture and Tourism traineeship will provide a variety of exposure and education during the term contract for you to engage with and develop career opportunities within the public cultural and creative industry.
The position may require shift and/or weekend work and travel and/or work across multiple facilities in order to meet schedules and departmental needs.
Key areas of responsibility include (but not limited to):
- Provide a high standard of customer service to visitors to our cultural facilities through education and public programs
- Provide accurate information to customers about current and future cultural activities and programs, events, resources, equipment and technology
- Participate in team and community engagement initiatives to support the planning and development of creative activities
- Assist with marketing activities including collating visitor data (e.g. visitor numbers and surveys), promoting cultural activities and developing collateral including online media, mail outs, websites and visual merchandising
- Assist in the planning and preparation of creative events and programs for all age groups through developing, creating, delivering and evaluating these activities
- Work with all team members to assist in achieving operational objectives
- Assist with functions and special events, both within hours and after hours as required and negotiated

Our ideal Trainee is enthusiastic with good communication skills who has a strong interest in the creative arts profession and a commitment to providing quality customer service.
To be eligible to apply you will be able to meet the following criteria:
- Completion of Year 12 HSC or equivalent
- Demonstrated interest in cultural activities and events, libraries, galleries, marketing and museums
- Commitment to customer service with good communication skills
- Proven ability to work in a team environment
- Experience in multi-tasking and working in a fast paced and changing environment
- Enthusiasm, flexibility and willingness to undertake the required qualifications online and within the two-year term of this role
- Desirable – Class C Driver’s license
- Desirable – good computer skills particularly with MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint
