When Borders re-open, how to help arrivals

Today, the Queensland border re-opened, after almost 5 months of being shut.

Behind the scenes here at ART we’ve been helping regional tourism operators throughout lockdowns & border closures; back on the road to welcome travellers, with industry resources & tools to provide authentic memorable tourism experiences, in these new times of travel.

With new rules to follow as interstate borders open up – a great way for regional tourism operators to help visitors plan and travel, is:

  • to keep up to date with the current health advice in your state, and to make a list of local government operated (free) Covid testing centres to be able to refer recent arrivals to, as most visitors will need to have a Day 2 or 5 test after entering the state.

  • Any information you can give also in helping them feel safe, such as places to eat that have good ventilation, outdoor areas to spend time in etc, is all helpful whilst visitors look after themselves & their health, during their time enjoying regional destinations.

For further practical tips on changes in visitor sentiment, see my previous article published last month here on the ART Blog.

In the #SydneyMorningHerald & #TheAge over the weekend, there was a feature about visitor sentiment, using my own family which is spread around Australia (& the world) as a case, penned by journalist Sue Williams. Interstate tourism is back .. the rest of Australia can’t wait to visit the Sunshine State once again. International travellers though sadly still have to wait:
