Kangaroo Island lies 13.5 kilometres off the mainland of South Australia, less than 3 hours by road and ferry south of Adelaide. Totalling 4,400 square kilometres, over a third of the island is protected in nature reserves, home to native wildlife like Kangaroos, Echidnas, and diverse bird species including the Glossy Black Cockatoo. The Island is renowned for its blend of rugged and natural beauty which attracts over 200,000 visitors each year.
Kangaroo Island Council services a community of approximately 4,500 residents. Based in Kingscote, the Council’s vision for Kangaroo Island is a confident, growing, and cohesive community.
Kangaroo Island Council are seeking applications for the position of Community & Economic Development Manager. Reporting to the Director Community Development, your main responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Community Engagement including events and special projects
- Management of Grants and Funding Applications
- Economic Development including business development across tourism, agriculture, and special events
- Marketing & Communication including strategy, community initiatives, and Council publications
- Key Stakeholder Management across all areas of Government, community, and private enterprise
Preferred criteria:
- A tertiary qualification relevant to the role such as Economics, Marketing, and/or significant relevant experience
- Experience in the development and implementation of economic strategy and community engagement plans
- Experience of investment attraction and grant funding applications
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills coupled with strong negotiation skills and the ability to influence key stakeholders
The successful candidate will be energetic and driven, you will be proactive and highly organised with the desire to provide best value outcomes for both Council and the Community. Previous experience within Local Government would be highly regarded.
